CyberSmart | Blog Comments

Today for cybersmart I wrote a draft reply on a google slide. There are 3 types of comments that you can say to the blogs. First is you are greeting the blogger and being nice about their blog and what you like about it. Second is respond, when a person comments to your blog you respond a nice comment and answer the question. Last, you have to question the blogger about how they blog their post or asking a question.

I enjoyed this because it is nice to comment to a persons blog.

Procedural Writing

LI: to write a clear intruction that show how to make a hangi.

Today we unpacked how to follow and write a set of instructions. To do this effectively your instructions need to be explicit and the steps to follow ordered. Each step begins with an instructional verb and should be written in a way that is easy to understand.  I enjoyed this because I liked how the hangi was made in instructions.

Equipment needed:

  • a shovel
  • a lighter
  • hardwood like mānuka (because it’ll burn longer)
  • volcanic rocks
  • food tray
  • cloth bags
  • leaves
  • hook tool
  • gloves

Ingredients needed:

  • meat- beef, pork, lamb, chicken and ox.
  • vegetables – potatoes, carrots, taro leaves, pumpkin and kurma.

Te Reo Maori

Today we were doing Te Reo Maori.

We looked at the pictures and most of us knew those pictures. We looked up for the pictures names, The people that are in the pictureare famous because some of them were the royal family.

Next we answered the questions that says who the famous people is mother and father.

I found this Great because I got to know what the famous people is name was. This was interesting.

Moko Ika Hikuwaru

LI: To learn and illustrait a taniwha using our imagination.

This week we made a Taniwha with our imagination. We made our Taniwha pink and lives in the volcano, the details is lava, the treasure chest, the 2 other volcanos, the star and the rocks. Some rocks are flying out the volcano. Me and my partner added detail to the Taniwha, the Taniwha had wings and scales on his body, it has 6 legs and 1 tail. Our Taniwha is pink and is protecting the treasure behind him.

I found this activity great because I like making art with my imagination.

Main Ideas

LI: To identify the main ideas in the text

This week we have been learning how to find and collaboratively decide on the main idea in a text by negotiating. We read the text Lester and Clyde. This was a text about the consequences of pollution. Our group think the main idea was yellow words highlighted.

We found this activity helpful because it helps our brain get smarter and better at writing good sentences.

Tamaki River

This week we have been learning about what rivers are, their unique attributes and how to label them. We then created a DLO about the Tamaki river and its history. Did you know, The Tamaki River was originally called Te Wai o Taiki, meaning “The Waters of Taiki”. The name Taiki is a shortened form of Taikehu, the name of an ancestor of Ngāi Tai.

Using our knowledge that we acquired, we showcased the features of the Tamaki river using an aerial map. We then compared the Tamaki River with a prominent river in the world. Our group chose to look at Tamaki River.  Finally we made a comparison of the two rivers.

Explanation Writing

LI: To understand the structure and language features in an explanation

How did Goldilocks upset the bear family?

To upset someone it’s to make them disappointed, worried, or unhappy. In the fairytale Goldilocks and the three bears. She makes unwise decisions. Have you ever broken into someone’s house?

Goldilocks found a cottage and entered into private property without permission from owners. Goldilocks was disrespectful and has no self morals which is shown when  she ate the bear family’s porridge. She sat on the baby chair in addition she ended up breaking the chair leaving it in pieces.

When the bears got home, they were shocked to find their porridge eaten and  the baby chair was broken. Imagine how upset you would feel getting home to find someone had broken into your house!

To help us understand how to write an explanation we looked at the purpose, the structure (what it looks like) and the language features. An explanation tells us how or why something is the way it is. To help us understand this we learnt about cause and effect. Cause and effect is an action and a reaction. We used the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears to help us understand this. Here is our explanation that describes how Goldilocks upset the Bear family.

This activity was fun because I learnt a lot about this story. I never read the story called Goldilocks and the three Bears.

Treaty of Waitangi

LI: To explore the world 1840 and the art of the Treaty.

This week we looked at the what the world was like in 1840. Did you know people were poor so boys had to clean out chimneys to make money for their parents. After this we identified some of the key people and their role in the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. I found it interesting that I thought the person signing the Treaty was Hone Heke because he had a tiaha. We then used the information from both of these activities to help us read a painting of the day the treaty was signed. We used our knowledge to infer what the artist Marcus King might have wanted us to think was happening.

I found this interesting because what each person wrote as a contribute to the Treaty of Waitangi.

One Line Draw

Today I was doing one line draw.

The one line draw is drawing something without letting the pen go.

I drew a stick man with hair because it was easier.

I did not let go the pen and then means I did it.

I enjoyed doing the one line draw. I need to improve on drawing a harder one. I did good at one line draw.
