How to Prepare a Harakeke

LI: To learn how to prepare harakeke flax.

This week we learnt how to prepare a harakeke flax as it will be helpful for our item on the PBSMD (Panmure Bridge School Market Day). Something I found interesting about harakeke was that people make stuff out of it because it is useful to them.

I found this activity interesting because they make ropes, fishing lines and nets with harakeke.

Celebrating Diwali

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find out what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world.

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that tells others what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world.

Something I found interesting was that they made lamps with paper because it was interesting.

Moko Ika Hikuwaru

LI: To learn and illustrait a taniwha using our imagination.

This week we made a Taniwha with our imagination. We made our Taniwha pink and lives in the volcano, the details is lava, the treasure chest, the 2 other volcanos, the star and the rocks. Some rocks are flying out the volcano. Me and my partner added detail to the Taniwha, the Taniwha had wings and scales on his body, it has 6 legs and 1 tail. Our Taniwha is pink and is protecting the treasure behind him.

I found this activity great because I like making art with my imagination.

Tamaki River

This week we have been learning about what rivers are, their unique attributes and how to label them. We then created a DLO about the Tamaki river and its history. Did you know, The Tamaki River was originally called Te Wai o Taiki, meaning “The Waters of Taiki”. The name Taiki is a shortened form of Taikehu, the name of an ancestor of Ngāi Tai.

Using our knowledge that we acquired, we showcased the features of the Tamaki river using an aerial map. We then compared the Tamaki River with a prominent river in the world. Our group chose to look at Tamaki River.  Finally we made a comparison of the two rivers.

Treaty of Waitangi

LI: To explore the world 1840 and the art of the Treaty.

This week we looked at the what the world was like in 1840. Did you know people were poor so boys had to clean out chimneys to make money for their parents. After this we identified some of the key people and their role in the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. I found it interesting that I thought the person signing the Treaty was Hone Heke because he had a tiaha. We then used the information from both of these activities to help us read a painting of the day the treaty was signed. We used our knowledge to infer what the artist Marcus King might have wanted us to think was happening.

I found this interesting because what each person wrote as a contribute to the Treaty of Waitangi.

Air Transport

Today I was desighing my aeroplane.

Aeroplane drivers have weather problems and they want the plane to not get damaged. They can make better armored and more protection to the aeroplane that way the plane does not get damaged.

First I added better protection from bad weathers like thunder. That way it will not get damaged. Then I added some speed to go faster.

I added a boat under the aeroplane to float when falling down to the sea. The small wings makes the aero plane curve easily.

My way of the aero plane is better because it has protection and it can float and can curve and is faster. I made it faster by adding 2 more wings. The plane is much more stronger than the normal plane. I added 2 small wings that can curve so they dont have to turn very slowly. The plane will float on water safetly.

I enjoyed designing my aeroplane. I did good at my pros and cons. I need to improve on adding more things for more saftey landings.

Car Timeline

This week I was learning about the car timeline.

First I was starting to search up the Benz Patent MotorWagon and it was made in 1769. That car was the first Gasoline powered car. The Benz Patent MotorWagon can only travel for 20 minutes.

The next history old car I looked up was a car that was made in 1938. It was called the Ford Model T series.

Lastly It was the Bugatti. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 became the fastest commercial production car. It was made in 2005.

I enjoyed learning the old cars. I did good at looking up the benz patent motorwagon history. I need to improve on learning more of the history of old cars.

Pro and Con

In inquiry we learned about pro and con.

Pro means person or event and even professional.

Con means tricking them or lying to them.

Jet ski is a motorbike but it go to the water and that jet ski is the faster.

Ship has a hotel and a waterpark and a cafe and a roller caster.

Modern Cars and Olden Cars

Today I was learning about modern cars. The modern car I was learning about was Tesla’s. Tesla’s are electric cars that only use electricity to drive not gas.

Tesla’s can drive by there self because of the electricity. Under the tesla inside has a battery that can be charged by the electric station.

In side the bonet there’s an engine that gets powered by electricity to make the car drive. The bonet is in the front of the tesla that can be opened.

Next I was learning about the old car. The old is called the benz patent motorwagon. It was the first car to be made.

The benz patent motorwagon can only drive for 20 minutes and then stop, it has a lever that can steer the wheels to go left or right.

The benz patent wagon has 3 wheels, 1 is small and one is big. The small wheel is called the foot well, the foot well moves the car and the 2 big wheels moves when the engine turns on.

The engine makes the car drive for only 20 minutes.

I enjoyed at doing this activity. I need to improve on labling the hard parts of the cars. I did well at labling cars.

Transportation

I learned about transportation. Transportation takes people from one place to another. There are 4 modes that can transport you. It is air, land, rail and sea.

The first mode I learnt was rail transport. Rail transport can only travel on train tracks. The wheels roll on the train tracks to move, the first person to invent cars was Richerd Trevithick.

My next mode I learnt was land. Land transport that can take you to other places. Land transport is vehicales you can only drive on the road. The car engine starts the car and when you drive the car will move and the wheels.

The next mode I learnt was air transport. Air transport are used to fly up in the sky like airplanes or warplanes. Some can be war planes to fight in war and the train works by its engine because the engine controlls the wings to move.

Lastly was sea, the sea trasportation has boats in it, the boats have mainsails and when the wind blows then the mainsail will move the boat. the Egyptians built the first boat 6000 years ago.

I did good at this activity. I need to improve on writting more. I enjoyed this activity.
