A Moment in Time

LI: To write a poem that describes as moment in time.

 

For this task we made a poem.

First we watch a video about a man in a glass cage that almost got eaten by a polar bear. After we done watching that we start making a poem DLO about what we saw on the video and how would we feel if we were that man. I enjoyed this task because it was interesting about polar bears think of humans as food.

Moment In Time DLO Mount Wellington

LI: To write a poem that describes as moment in time.

 

For this task we went for a walk to maungarei mountain.

We walked to the mountain because that was for our work, after we walked on the mountain we create a DLO and make a poem about the adventure we had on the mountain. For the first 4 sentences we use the word. I heard, I saw, I felt and I wondered. I enjoyed walking on the mountain because the view was nice.

Sound Focus

For this task we learned about vowel sounds.

First we got our writing books and white boards, we then first write bread, great and break 3 times on our white board. After that we say the words to our partner and then say diferent words that have ea in it. Lastly we make a DLO about the Vowel Sounds. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt what vowel sounds are.

These Shoes Have a Story to tell

One day a boy named Jerald was walking down the road. He had found some dirty shoes filled with dirty water. He picked up the shoe and poured the water out of the shoe. Then he decided to take it home. He asked if his dad could clean the shoes and he said yes. After that day he went to school and he said to his friends. I am getting new beautiful shoes. His friends didn’t believe it was beautiful. Those shoes aren’t going to be beautiful, his friends said. Once his dad finished cleaning the shoes. Jerald came and was really happy when his dad finished cleaning the shoe. After that day the Jerald was excited to show his friends his new shoes. When Jerald came to school, everyone was surprised and shocked about his shoes. Some people were jealous because Jerald is shoes was amazing and magnificent. Jerald had people to be his friends and they all would always look at his shoes and sit next to him. Jerald had the best day ever and was very happy to have his shoes.

 LI: To use the 5 senses and personification to help us paint a picture with words. To understand that personification is to give an inanimate object human qualities

  • Our challenge was to co construct a text using personification and the senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. We sat back to back and weren’t able to talk… Half way through Mrs Anderson challenged us to include a rhetorical question and a simile or metaphor…
  • Once we had completed this part of the challenge we joined together with another group to share our writing and make sure what we had written made sense. 
  • After that part of the challenge was finished we used the punctuation points game to… We marked eachother’s punctuation against the points table. We then had a chance to check our own work against the points table. That was fun because every point our partners missed menat we could take a point off theirs.

Down the Steps

I was walking through the forest as I came across a small cabin. Little did I know the cabin had a lot of secrets to hide… The door groaned open slowly giving me an uneasy sensation. I walked down the stairs and I caught my auditory senses snapping at my ears as I heard a peculiar sound. That very sound was so loud it sent shivers down my spine. “WHAT IS THAT HORRIBLE SMELL?” UGH!! I said, I could smell mold coming from the stairs as if someone or something had been here before. I quickly noticed the walls were closing in on me. I struggled to make my way through the walls as they were closing in faster and faster, my claustrophobia got the better of me,  but luckily I made it. As I got closer to the sound it got louder and louder. I caught a glimpse of a shadow and red eyes glaring down at me as if it was prying at my soul. I turned around but the walls blocked all of my possible ways to escape. I looked back around again and the shadow was gone. I continued to make my way through the abandoned basement, I ran rapidly down the stairs. The figure screeched at me with a deafening tone. My ears struggled to maintain balance throughout the screech.

  • Our challenge was to co construct a text using the olfactory, auditory, gustatorial, visual and kinethetic senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. This time we were able to speak and sat facing our partners. 
  • Once we had completed this part of the challenge we joined together with another group to share our writing and make sure what we had written made sense and had met the language feature challenge.
  • I found this activity great because of how we worked together

Procedural Writing

LI: to write a clear intruction that show how to make a hangi.

Today we unpacked how to follow and write a set of instructions. To do this effectively your instructions need to be explicit and the steps to follow ordered. Each step begins with an instructional verb and should be written in a way that is easy to understand.  I enjoyed this because I liked how the hangi was made in instructions.

Equipment needed:

  • a shovel
  • a lighter
  • hardwood like mānuka (because it’ll burn longer)
  • volcanic rocks
  • food tray
  • cloth bags
  • leaves
  • hook tool
  • gloves

Ingredients needed:

  • meat- beef, pork, lamb, chicken and ox.
  • vegetables – potatoes,carrots, taro leaves, pumpkin and kurma.

Explanation Writing

LI: To understand the structure and language features in an explanation

How did Goldilocks upset the bear family?

To upset someone it’s to make them disappointed, worried, or unhappy. In the fairytale Goldilocks and the three bears. She makes unwise decisions. Have you ever broken into someone’s house? 

Goldilocks found a cottage and entered into private property without permission from owners. Goldilocks was disrespectful and has no self morals which is shown when  she ate the bear family’s porridge. She sat on the baby chair in addition she ended up breaking the chair leaving it in pieces.

When the bears got home, they were shocked to find their porridge eaten and  the baby chair was broken. Imagine how upset you would feel getting home to find someone had broken into your house!

To help us understand how to write an explanation we looked at the purpose, the structure (what it looks like) and the language features. An explanation tells us how or why something is the way it is. To help us understand this we learnt about cause and effect. Cause and effect is an action and a reaction. We used the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears to help us understand this. Here is our explanation that describes how Goldilocks upset the Bear family.

This activity was fun because I learnt a lot about this story. I never read the story called Goldilocks and the three Bears.

Informal Letter

Today we had to write an informal letter.

I was writing a informal letter to my family and fake friends. First I wrote a letter about rainbows end.

I had to write a google doc and write 3 informal letters. I wrote about nice things and gifts.

After that we were done writing informal letters. I wrote one with rainbows end, I wrote about Hawaii and wrote about the vacation.

I enjoyed learning how to write a informal letter. I need to improve on writing more letters. I did good at writing informal letters.

Formal Letter

Today we were learning how to write a formal letter.

First we had to add a fake address. The fake address was 25 Kings Road, Panmure.

Next we have to write the date. The date was Wednesday 24th of Novemeber 2022.

Then we had to a greeting. My greeting was hello Isaac.

After that we had to write a paragraph. For the paragraphs I informed someone to come to your place, or a visit, or come help on a project.

I enjoyed learning what a formal letter is. I did good at writing a formal letter. I need to improve on writing more paragraphs.

TREE

Today I was learning about what tree means. T stands for titile. R stands for reveal. E stands for events. E stands for ending.

After we learned about TREE. We had to make a recount of what happened the weekends. For my title it was my cousins birthday.

My Title was My cousins birthday.

My reveal was we went to Fortuna resturant and then we had to wait for the fortuna resturant to open, it opens at 5:30 in the afternoon.

My events was the worker or waiter came with a small cheese cake with a candle on top, and chocolate sauce on it to give to my cousin.

My ending was I enjoyed. I improve on. I did well at.

I enjoyed this take because I liked to talk about eating in there. I did good at knowing what a recount is. I need to improve on knowing what TREE means.
