Our Whenua

LI: To Connect to the whenua around PBS

For this task we created a google map.

First we go into a group of 2. Then we mark the street roads and type the information of the history behind it. There are many inspiring historys behind the streets. Lastly we mark the other schools onto our google map and type what they are about. I enjoyed this activity because it was interesting to read about what the schools around us are about.

Te Reo Maori

For this task we translated Maori words into english.

For this google doc we translate country Maori words into engish. After we done that we move down to the bottem and then translate the names into english, then we find out what are the maori letters of the alphabet.

I enjoyed this task because it was cool to translate Maori words into english words.

Matariki Star Design

LI: TO plan, design and create a class star for matariki that tells a story.

For this task we created a star.

For the star we have to design this for painting the wooden star because of matariki day. Then after we done designing our star we vote for who’s star is better. Then when voted there will be 4 people who were voted to combine their stars,  then the painters will paint it on the wooden star.

I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to design our own star.

Kuri DLO

LI: To find information and retell it in less words

For this task it was about the kuri.

In this DLO we read about a story that is called Kuri, it talked about what kuri’s eat, how they were brought to new zealand and what they used their fur for. Kuri dogs are unique dogs because they can hunt animals and animals that can fly.

Kuri dogs were very loved by their owners and they were brought to new zealand by the maori ancestors, Kuri dogs are now extinct,  scientests want to find out why kuri dogs were extinct.

I enjoyed this task because it was interesting to know that Kuri dogs can hunt.

Pakatoa Exploring Mood And Atmosphere Response DLO

LI: To notice how authors use vocabulary to create mood and atmosphere in a text

For this task my group were understanding what mood and atmosphere.

Mood helps the reader feel the characters feeling and atmosphere means the overall mood that is about a story.

First we read the maori words to help us make an informed opinion. After that we use our sensory imagery to describe what it feels like, what it tastes like, what it smells like, what is sounds like, what it looks like and what it moves like. Then we read a story that is called King and country, after reading King and Country we have to know our mood in this text and explain your answer. Lastly we make a 10 word summary about what we read in the story.

I enjoyed this activity because it was interesting to see what happened in the story.

Current Events

LI: To summanise a newspaper article.

For todays task we create google my maps.

We choose 5 words out of this: timeliness, revelance, magnitude, unexcpectedness, impact, reference to someone important, oddity, conflict, reference to something negative, emotions and progress.

Then we put one of our 5 words on our marked event, after that we write a 10 word summary about what event happened here.

I enjoyed this activity because it was so interesting to see the events that happened around the world.

A Moment in Time

LI: To write a poem that describes as moment in time.

 

For this task we made a poem.

First we watch a video about a man in a glass cage that almost got eaten by a polar bear. After we done watching that we start making a poem DLO about what we saw on the video and how would we feel if we were that man. I enjoyed this task because it was interesting about polar bears think of humans as food.

Moment In Time DLO Mount Wellington

LI: To write a poem that describes as moment in time.

 

For this task we went for a walk to maungarei mountain.

We walked to the mountain because that was for our work, after we walked on the mountain we create a DLO and make a poem about the adventure we had on the mountain. For the first 4 sentences we use the word. I heard, I saw, I felt and I wondered. I enjoyed walking on the mountain because the view was nice.

Sound Focus

For this task we learned about vowel sounds.

First we got our writing books and white boards, we then first write bread, great and break 3 times on our white board. After that we say the words to our partner and then say diferent words that have ea in it. Lastly we make a DLO about the Vowel Sounds. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt what vowel sounds are.

Chinese Lantern Festival

LI: To use smart searching skills, to research correct informaton and research about the Chinese Lantern Festival.

For this task we made a google slide about the Chinese Lantern Festival.

We created a google slide and started writing about the chinese new year, We researched things that we didint know about the chinese lantern festival and added it to our googe slides. Did you know that the red colours on the lanterns are meant to bring good fortunes. I enjoyed this activity because it was interesting to know about why the lanterns are red.
